Author Highlight: Ed Young

Image result for lon po poOur Trillium have been learning about some favorite illustrators along with the Caldecott Award winning books.  Our focus for the past week has been on Ed Young.  He was the winner of the Caldecott Award in 1990 for Lon Po Po, a Chinese version of Little Red Riding Hood.   His artwork is inspired by the Chinese philosophy of art.  He is quoted saying, "A Chinese painting is often accompanied by words...They are complementary.  There are things that words do that pictures never can, and likewise, there are images that words can never describe."
A beautiful illustrated book about a bird who discovers who he truly is.

The Emperor and the Kite (Paperstar Book)
Another beautiful Chinese tale of the importance of the smallest one.

Please take time to check out more of Ed Young's books.
